John Day of Cecilton, MD began carving in 1991. While he primarily carves waterfowl, he also likes to do an occasional songbird, raptor, shorebird, and even fish for variety. His carvings run the gamut from modest hunting decoys to custom competition pieces. He has won numerous awards for his carvings, including “Best in Divers’ at the Ward World Championships. John’s work has appeared twice in the prestigious Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury, MD. One of his carvings was featured an edition of the Ducks Unlimited Calendar. He has exhibited in the Easton Waterfowl Festival since 1993, along with many other shows from Long Island to North Carolina.

John is an active supporter of numerous conservation organizations, and has been invited to speak and conduct workshops at various public and private events. He has taught carving at a local community college and especially enjoys carving workshops for children. He now holds formal carving classes in his studio workshop. John’s work may be found in galleries on the east coast and in private collections throughout North America, as well as Japan, Scotland and Germany.
