Richard Wilcoxen or Wilcoxsen is probably better known as Mr. Y. Until recent years, the decoys he carved were attributed to Perry Wilcoxen. As more information was gleaned from collectors and carvers however, it became apparent that Richard probably influenced Perry causing similarities in their decoy designs. Richard Wilcoxen carved before the turn of the century. His decoys exhibit fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. Wilcoxen notched the bill-to-head joint, separated mandibles and carved nostrils and nails. He painted simple plumage patterns and scalloped the chests in a style remeniscent of Mason decoys. This material concerning Richard Wilcoxen and his decoys is questionable; collectors and carvers continue to piece together more substantial information.
