Little is known about Walter Brady, a guide and decoy maker on Cobb’s Island. Brady’s carving style reflects typical Cobb characteristics. V-shaped wingtips are relief-carved over V–shaped tails. Inletted bills with square bases accent angular faces with brow lines diminishing to the neck. Oyster locals recall Brady as a nasty old man. One day while poling his skiff into the harbor, Brady fell overboard to the delight of a group of boys standing on the dock. They pointed and laughed, but when Walter Brady threatened that none of them should be there when he got out, the dock quickly cleared.
