Roger Barton was integral to the spread of decoy carving appreciation along the West Coast in the mid twentieth century. He was a founding member of the Pacific Decoy Flyway Association and acted as editor emeritus for many years. In 1975, he took 3rd place in the Pacific Flyway Decoy Contest in Santa Rosa, CA with a canvas bottomed Widgeon Drake. He also wrote articles on the Pacific decoy carving tradition for Wildfowl Carving and Collection Magazine.
