Bart Walter

(1958 - Present) Baltimore, MD

Bart Walter was born in 1958. During his childhood Walter’s grew up in Baltimore, MD, but spent many weekends exploring Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Walter quickly became fascinated with the lives of watermen and waterfowl that lived along the Chesapeake Bay. His fascination eventually led Walter to start carving and his natural talent made him a nationally recognized carver by his mid -twenties. In 1968, Walter met Dr. Jane Goodall, whose work as a primatologist inspired Walter to sculpt large framed animals such as chimpanzees. Walter and his wife traveled went on an African Safari, which caused Walter to shift his focus to making bronze cast statues of large African mammals. Almost a decade after Walter began focusing on African wildlife; he switched his focus to North American mammals. Bart Walter now has several public installations across the United States and is recognized as a premier wildlife artist in several different mediums.
