Brock Hinton

( - )

Brock Hinton discovered his artistic talents at an early age. He enjoyed making furniture, stained
glass and painting. He painted billboards in high school for extra money and was asked to paint the
center circle in the high school gymnasium when the floor was refinished.
He started carving at the age of 17 after seeing a decorative green wing teal decoy at the county
fair. It looked so real he just wanted to touch it. His love for art and love for hunting made carving a
perfect hobby he just had to try. One of the carvers at the fair gave him some free lessons and he was
on his way.
Brock attended Chico State University and was accepted in to dental school after three years of
college. He went to Emory University in Atlanta Georgia for dental school and graduated in 1986. He
won the crown and bridge award in dental school and was number one in his class clinically. After dental
school he continued his education at Emory to become a prosthodontist.
He Started private practice in Sacramento in 1988 and is currently still practicing. He has been
voted the top prosthodontist in Sacramento by a poll of 1800 local dentists 15 years in a row. He has
also been voted the top cosmetic dentist.
His first bird carving was a mallard smoothy. He then carved several decorative floating decoys
before changing his focus from ducks to decorative life size and miniature wild fowl. He also carved a
couple fish with the latest winning second in species in the open division at the Ward World
Championship. He has won multiple ribbons at the Pacific flyway decoy show, California Open and Ward
World Championships including 4 best of shows and the Peoples choice award in Sacramento in 2024.
Still practicing full time his free time is limited so he currently strives to carve one bird a year to
enter into the World life sized division. He looks forward to retirement and more time to carve.
