Growing up in South Jersey, Bruce developed a love of birds at an early age. Over the years this grew into a passion to look at birds, to carve birds, and to photograph birds.
Bruce carved his first decoy in 1982 while in college at Clemson University in South Carolina. He had a part-time job working in the woodshop in the Architecture Building, which was run by Ed Hall. Ed was an avid duck hunter that carved his own decoys. One day Ed challenged Bruce to carve a decoy and he did. It turned out to be a terrible rendition of a Mallard that Bruce still cherishes today.
Bruce first entered competitions in the Ohio Decoy Carvers and Collectors Show in 1998. Since 1998, he has been competing in shows all over the country and has won several awards including Best of Show in Smoothie Shorebirds at the Ward World Championships in Ocean City, Maryland in both 2009, 2013 and Shorebird Decoys in 2017, 2019, and 2023.
Bruce was born in Woodbury, NJ. He graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School in Gloucester, NJ. He moved to Ohio in 1986.
Bruce works as a Project manager for a commercial concrete contractor. He currently resides in Sheffield Village, Ohio with his wife Sue.
