Charlie Clark was a hunter and waterman known for his curlew, plover, yellowlegs and merganser decoys. His notable shorebirds feature disproportionately small knobby heads atop skinny necks and a definite ridge running down the back to the tail. Clark’s paint patterns are highly stylized. The excellent condition of his surviving decoys may be attributed to the time of production. After shorebird hunting was outlawed, many of Charlie Clark’s decoys ended up as lawn ornaments.
