Charles Pozzini set himself apart from area craftsmen by carving in a style akin to the Stratford, CT tradition. The detailed plumage patterns he painted on his birds accentuate their elongated bodies. Pozzini carved only a few species to satisfy the needs of area hunters and did not produce flocks of decoys. It is estimated that he created about one hundred lures replicating scaup, black ducks, geese and mallards. He never sold any of his decoys, but gave some of them away. Pozzini may not have gained as much recognition as he did had it not been for the New York decoy competitions. He placed in the 1947 Sportsmen’s Show and returned the following year to take first prizes for a canvasback, pintail and redhead (Engers 208). Some examples of Charles Pozzini’s skill as a decoy carver remain on display at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont.
