Chris Bonner was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan in a family of established competitive decoy carvers. After moving in 1974 to Louisiana near the Bayou Savage National Wildlife Refuge, Chris and his brothers Mike and Dick developed their carving skills and an eye for natural beauty through the guidance of their father, Harold Bonner. Harold was a master sculptor and taxidermist who studied under Louis Jonas, a world famous sculptor and natural science exhibit designer. As they grew into masters themselves, the three brothers are now highly sought after for their carving and teaching skills. Their work has been featured in numerous magazines, museums, and galleries nationwide. Some of their students are Best in Show winners at the Ward World Carving Championship competition.
