Domingo Campo was a fisherman, hunter and trapper whose carvings exemplify the works of earlier Spanish immigrants. He designed rigs of oversized bluebill, gadwall, mallard, pintail and teal decoys to use on the open waters of Lake Bourgogne. Each decoy sports carved wings, commands a low profile on the water and possesses a rocking body style. Campo’s short necks are fastened at an enlarged joint with wooden pegs. Instead of using glass eyes, Campo polished and inserted tips of bamboo. Campo then finished off each decoy with solid blocks of paint unadorned by feathers or further brushstrokes.
