Eugene T. Merritt is a life-long resident of Chincoteague Island, Virginia. He is currently retired and has always been an avid duck hunter. He began decoy carving in the early 1970’s. He has successfully participated in various east coast carving competitions, winning hundreds of awards including Best in Show Lem and Steve Gunning Pairs and Best in Show at the Ward Foundation’s Chesapeake Challenge.
