Jeff Krete has lived his whole life in Ontario, Canada. He started carving in 1983 after learning about many antique decoy styles of carving and looking at the work of a handful of early decorative wildfowl carvers of the 60s and 70s. He mentored under the late George Arn Pletzer and since he began carving he has won over 200 international awards, most of which came from the world class level. Jeff is a four-time World Champion, most recently winning the 2014 World Interpretive division with his entry “Anatomy of Flight”. In 2007 and 2010 Jeff also won the World Decorative Miniature award and in 2006, the World Decorative Life-size Floating Waterfowl Pair.
Jeff attended the University of Waterloo in Ontario and received a Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree. He continues to work for Ducks Unlimited Canada as a wetland and waterfowl habitat biologist. Ducks Unlimited partners with private landowners to deliver programs aimed at restoring wet land habitats across southern Ontario. He says that he gets most of his inspiration from his job. He lives in Ontario with his wife and three children.
