John Ewen was born on January 20th, 1920 in Kent, England to Lionel B. and Robin I. Ewen. In 1927, he and his family moved to West Hartford, Connecticut. He fought in World War II as a member of the fifth infantry division. In 1044 he went into battle in Normandy France, and continued to fight in the Third Army across Europe under General Patton. In the postwar era, Ewen became President of Hartford Containers, Inc. and pursued many different hobbies, including: hunting, fishing, painting, trap shooting, golfing and aviation. Additionally he also participated in scrimshaw, Nantucket basket weaving, and decoy carving. He won First place in the Amateur Shootin’ Stool category at the Ward World Carving Championships in 1976 with a Black duck. On May 9, 2014 John died in Hartford Connecticut.
