Leo McIntosh started his decoy career in 1971 as a painter for the esteemed carver Ken Harris in New York. After working there for five years, McIntosh decided to try his hand at carving decorative decoys. From 1976-1986 he worked exclusively on competition birds, winning multiple Best in Shows and most notably Best in Show at the 1981 Ward World Carving Championship in Ocean City, MD. In 1986, McIntosh redirected his attention to gunning decoys and simplified his carving styles. Before his untimely death in 2007, he was not only an accomplished decoy carver but also worked on fish, shorebirds and flat art.
