Oscar Carroll

Oscar Carroll was a quiet man who lived on a small farm with his family. He preferred the life of a waterman to that of a farmer and spent much of his time fishing, guiding, hunting and making decoys. Most of his stools were carved from virgin cypress knees and simply chopped and smoothed with a knife. Carroll used a pocketknife to carve the oversized heads with thick necks, high crowns and no eyes. He usually finished his decoys with foundry molded weights nailed to the bottoms. The majority of Oscar Carroll’s output consists of canvasbacks and redheads, but he also produced a limited quantity of geese, pintails and wigeon.
