Peter Palumbo was born in Bay Shore, Long Island in 1962. In 1977, he began carving decoys to improve his duck hunting. He was soon fascinate by the experience; drawing patterns, painting birds and studying older decoys soon consumed his free time. As he honed his carving skills, Palumbo pulled away from hunting and turned to studying wildfowl with the aim of accurately replicating them in wood.
