Bob Kroese began carving wildfowl over 30 years ago. His desire to carve and paint wildfowl arose from his lifelong love for wildlife and the beauty of nature. Bob’s undergraduate degree in biology fueled his desire to attempt to achieve anatomical accuracy. Bob was also seeking a fulfilling avocation to help him deal with the stresses of his career as a hospital CEO.
Over the years, Bob has successfully competed at carving shows across the nation. Bob has competed at the Ward World Championships every year for the past 28 years. Beginning at the novice level, he then proceeded through intermediate, advanced, and ultimately the Master’s and World’s levels at the Ward World Championships.
Bob’s most prestigious wins at the Ward World Championship show have been “Best in Division” winner in the Decorative Smoothie Wildfowl category in 2009 and 2010. In 2012, he won Second in the World in the World Championship Floating Decorative Pairs Competition and in 2014 won Third Best in Master’s Decorative Lifesize Wildfowl. In 2019, Bob was “Best of Division” winner in the Decorative Smoothie Champagne Wildfowl Nonfloating Competition (NCWC).
