William Barco

(1870 - 1947) Deal Island, MD

William Barco worked as a waterman and was employed by several different hunting clubs, including the Princess Anne Club. He carved his decoys of juniper, and a number of surviving oversized canvasbacks attributed to Barco still bear the brand, “P.A. CLUB” (Coppedge 30). During the 1930’s, Barco left the Princess Anne Club to join the Civilian Conservation Corps or C.C.C. Whether or not William Barco continued carving after leaving the club is unknown.
