Background:
Nelson Price Whitaker (1873-1922) was born in Principio Furnace, Cecil County, Maryland. He was in the fourth generation of the Whitaker family that controlled large timber and mining interests in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
In 1910 he was the general manager of the Whitaker-Glessner Company, Wheeling Corrugating Company, and he served in the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1916.
